Chapter 2

Dedications and thanx: Tess, my x-cellent best mate, who has co-edited this with my beta, Winona. My english teacher who doesn't lose her head too much when I hand in ridiculously long essays discussing the triangle between Logan, Rogue and Jean, when it should be about D'arcy and Elizabeth in Pride and Predujice. All dreamers. They have true vision. Punk and rock bands. You can never have too much hair dye.

NB. The 4th chapter is still being worked on, so bear with me. Hope you like it!

Saffy stared at the ceiling remembering the events of the night before. Climbing a tree and having the nightmares and then ending up in some school, whereupon she duly embarrassed herself by totally breaking down in front of the teachers, telling them all about her miserable existence.

'Marvellous. Just the start to the day I need. Who needs Kellogg's when you've got my life!'

A soft knock on the door brought her out of her dark reverie.

"Oh God, they've come to cheer me up!" she muttered as she went to open the door.

"Yes? What is it?" she said to 6'3" of chest. She looked up. It was that grumpy guy from last night.

'Probably woke him up. Hence the bed hair' she found herself thinking, 'but he still looks pissy and has messy hairMaybe they woke him up again' she smiled wanly at him. There was an awkward silence between them. He finally broke the silence.

"There's breakfast if you want it downstairs in the kitchen." He muttered.

"Thanks." Another long silence.

"I'm Saffy by the way" she ventured. He merely grunted in reply.

"Logan."

"O.K. . . I'll umm. . . I'll see you then" she said before closing the door and going to the bathroom.

Twenty minutes later and she was in the kitchen sipping a cup of tea and eating a bacon sandwich at a table with the dark haired woman who called herself Ororo.

"Why did you run away?" Ororo asked.

"Long story. Parents mega control freaks, I can't go anywhere without getting the Spanish Inquisition over why, where, who, and when." She sighed.

"Surely they're just concerned over where you are?"

"Nah. . . Been with mates parents, and they ask the same questions but with some concern. Mine aren't asking for parental love or concern, rather it's knowing for knowledge's sake. D'ya get my drift?"

"Yeah."

"Anyway. I'd had this mind-scrambling nightmare, and had the screams, to which my dad storms in asking what the problem is and do I wanna talk about it. So I do. And he slaps me one, telling me I'm a stupid girlhence why I'm here now." She finished with a shrug.

"I'm sorry Saffy" Ororo said quietly.

"Don't be. I thought that I would be clever and get out before he hit me again." She looked at her hands holding the cup and winced as another shot of pain raced through her hands.

"Are they still hurting?" Ororo asked with concern.

Saffron smiled in irony. "Yeah. Just a bit. Feels like I've crushed my hand."

"You know you could get it checked out here. I'll show you where after you've finished."

"Ta. Think I will" she suddenly had a thought.

"Hey, you know the great big bloke with a pissy face and weird hair" Ororo grinned at Logan's description.

"Yeah"

"Well, is he pissed off 'cos of me?" she asked anxiously.

"Logan's a very complex character" Ororo began.

"Yeah, I can see that" Saffy quipped"

He's not angry because of you. It's just him. He's really quite nice once you get to know him"

At that point Logan stepped into the room and walked over to the coffee machine.

"You talkin' about me?" he said to Ororo while giving her a flirtatious wink. He looked at Saffron. "I'm not pissed off at you, kid."

Saffron looked at him in shock.

"You heard what we were saying? Oh god" she said burying her face in her hands.

She heard him chuckle. "You're not the only one with good hearin' kid," he said before sitting at the table with them.

Saffron's head was still buried in her hands. "I'm so used to hiding them all. It's easier that way. Leads to no uncomfortable questions about how I saw a certain distance etcetera etcetera." She finished with a wave of her hand.

"How long have you had them?" he asked.

"Ever since I was little. I can remember sitting in my grandmothers old oak tree and being able to smell the trees, see the fields that stretched for miles with corn or wheat, hear all the sounds of her garden" a single tear fell on the table. "it was beautiful. I could be anything I wanted in that garden." She whispered from between her hands.

She looked up at them and wiped away the tears that slid down her face. "Can I go get my hands checked out? They still hurt."

Logan looked at her. "I'll take you there."

Saffy looked at Ororo and back to him. "Ororo said she would take me," she said in a small voice. She wasn't sure of Logan yet, or any of them for that matter.

"No, it's all right. You go with Logan. I have a class to teach anyway." Ororo said as she got up.

"O.k.What class do you teach by the way?" Saffy asked.

"Oh, pretty much anything. All the adults here teach something." Ororo replied before giving Saffron's shoulder a gentle squeeze and leaving the room.

Saffron turned to look at Logan. "I can't see you teaching English or classics. What do you teach?"

Logan shrugged at her. "I don't really teach"

"Just bum around?"

"Hey! I do not bum around! I have my uses." He retorted back.

Saffron laughed at his look of indignation. "I'm only teasing. Come on, I wanna get my hands checked and then get out of your hair."

She got up and went to the door and Logan followed. He showed her to the elevator and told her which room it was.

"If you get lost, yell. I'll be in the garage. I'm fixin' a bike." Were his parting words to her.
