you were stolen from the purity
of the quiet shelf you knew,
to be taken to worlds bizzare.
there was a time when you still believed. . .
when your wick was untrimmed
and your faith uncut by time.

did you cry for the darkness?
did you tremble in fear?
or did you always sense you were called?
what did his fire feel like
the first time?

the passion was sweet but oh it burned
your skin melted like wax
that in the fierce light seemed like blood.
there was a time when you finally let go. . .
when you felt the innocence harden.
it is always sad to see it fall.

did his light reach out for you?
did it meld with your own?
and was it more like heaven or like fate,
to lay so entwined inside
but never touch?

the light began to form shadows
to pull the ghosts from the walls.
you felt the cold wind of the evil,
and there was a time when you flickered
when your flame nearly went out
into the darkness of your death.

did you feel him surround you
and rekindle the spark that waned?
what in his eyes relit passion
to burn bright again
against the night?

you shone all you could before him,
for he could barely see his own light.
you feared consumption no longer.
there was a time when you forgot
the shelf and the past and the peace,
in favor of his eyes.

did you ever regret in the silence
that your life was to be so consumed?
did you feel the moments shrinking
as more and more went
to feed the flame?

now your light is flickering again
alone, for he is but smoke.
you burn and you burn in his honor.
there will come a time when you melt away
for all you are is a sliver, now,
but you want to die in the fire.

did your soul yearn for his warmth?
did you cry tiny tears of hard wax?
and did you believe
he would come back again
before you went out?

or did you stand alone on the table
shivering as the shadows laughed?
belief's last dying candle
in destiny's empty room.

waiting for the fire to return.
