I Could Only Watch

Disclaimer: Like I said, Logan's mine. Fox can have all the rest, but Wolvie-boy is MINE. Don't even think about sending thoselawyers. I have deployed land mines in the front yard for just such occasion.

Archive: i would be honored, only please let me know :)

Author's Notes: I warned you that Mirei's collage made my Muse bad. Here is the result of the twistedness. You have been warned. Oh and this is for Mirei, for producing that deliciously angsty work of art. ::bows::

i never bled with your passion.
i never shed the rubies from my skin.
my own life-river seemed paler,
as if my belief somehow died
just beneath the skin.
yours was threaded through your
every vein.
and when they tried to take that,
when they unravelled you one piece at a time.
i remember holding strands of you in
my arms.
and attempting to braid you back
into something like we once were.
but my fingers were always too thick
and clumsy.
in the end i could only watch.

i never wanted it to end like this.
i never wanted our myth to change.
your dreams were always brighter than mine,
as if my world was locked in monochrome,
jaded by all i had seen.
yours was always technicolor bright
with hope.
and when they tried to take that,
they stripped us of everything we had.
i remember standing beside you at
the auction,
and attempting to hide you
from the eyes of Sodom and Gomorrah
but my walls were always too thin
and brittle.
in the end i could only watch.

but i never planned to surrender.
i never planned to let them break the will.
your strength was always one with mine,
as if we kissed with more than lips,
but with shared souls.
your spirit was always shining
with your faith.
and when they tried to take that,
when they told you hope was dead,
and split your skin.
i remember kneeling beside you in
the darkness
and attempting to catch the blood
between my fingers as it drained from you.
but the physician could not even heal
himself.
they had taken that away, stolen the gift.
in the end i could only watch.

until my eyes could hold no more.
until we recaptured fate and escaped destiny.
and as we stand hand in hand
on the edge of the world,
ready at a moment's instance to dive off
into the vast unknown
of life in this brave new world
you lift your face toward me,
those eyes that were always purer than mine,
and i attempt to say i love you
but as your lips edge closer
words fail me.

and in the end, i can only watch
as our souls ebb together
and flow as one river
into the vast sea of tomorrow.

but this time, i will see us find freedom.
i will see us find the sun.
